Meet Crystal - a story of freedom and independence

Some of us take having a car in our driveway for granted.

For Crystal, this wasn’t even on her radar. At 40, she had never even had her license.

For three years, the team at Mission: St. Louis continually encouraged her to learn to drive.

Finally, last winter she found a driving school. With the support of her M:STL family, she completed the course. By February she had her license, bought a car and was on the road on her own for the first time.

“Mission: St. Louis is a life saver really. It’s me, God and Mission: St. Louis. I’ve got more confidence because of Mission: St. Louis.”

Crystal now has freedom and independence that she didn’t have before.

Crystal helped Mission: St. Louis see barriers that exist to getting a license. Because of her, we have now partnered with the school to offer driving lessons to other participants.

We believe in helping people on their path towards self-sufficiency. Everyone’s obstacles on this path are different; Crystal’s was transportation. Having her license goes beyond being able to drive a car. She now has more time to spend with her kids and to build her cleaning business. Along with getting her license and car, she recently celebrated winning her first competitive bid for a client.
