The feeling of hope

For 45 years, Ozella has lived in the same home where she raised her children and now her grandsons. Her home was once a source of pride, but due to her health and lack of resources it became a burden.

Her bathroom was in complete disrepair. There was no running water in her bathroom. The only way they could bathe was to turn the water on from the valve in the wall and wait for the cold water to trickle into the tub. Showers were not an option for her grandsons.

Ozella was discouraged because all she wanted was to feel clean and safe in her home.

When Ozella learned about our home repair program, she thought it was too good to be true. Despite her hesitations, we knew we could help.

The team was able to give her back her bathroom, installing a new bathtub, vanity and sink with access to hot and cold water – something we might take for granted.

“Mission: St. Louis has given me hope. As I saw the work being done, I knew my prayers had been answered.”

These repairs have allowed Ozella to feel safer and healthier and, in her words, “so human.” Her bathroom is no longer an obstacle to her or her family’s health or daily life.
